This mod was part of a joint effort by myself and a friend at id Software to help fix a few of the niggling inconsistencies in Q3.
Playing online with Q3´s old movement system means your movement on the server is linked to cl_maxpackets instead of com_maxfps. Using cl_maxpackets 30, the server processes your movement as if you have 30fps and with cl_maxpackets 15 the server processes movement as if you have 15fps. This results in a huge difference in the feel and abilities of the physics online compared to how it is on LAN or a listen server with high fps.
With the 125hz mod, players have consistent 125fps movement regardless of their settings or the server they are playing on. You can have 30 fps and you will be moving the same as someone with 50fps or 125fps. Playing online, on LAN or on a listen server is exactly the same. If you use cl_maxpackets 30 when playing online, the server will still process your movements at 125hz, the online restriction in movement is now gone.
Modemers will get the biggest boost in movement online due to them having to use a lowish cl_maxpackets value. It´s also a huge advantage for everyone in general since the movement is much smoother and feels more responsive.
Movement isn´t the only thing this mod improves. Aiming is also better because the angle changes you make are processed at a set frequency resulting in a better overall feel and much more consistency especially with hitscan weapons.
NOTE: This is a server and client modification. Meaning that the server must be running the mod for you to be able to take advantage of the new movement.
